When I was a little girl, I was a die hard tomboy. I played football better than most, ran faster than most and could do more push-ups than most! It wasn't until I was about 14 or 15 that I fell into more feminine ways. At this age, I wanted a sleigh bed with one of those things that princesses sleep under. Yeah, I wanted a canopy bed! However, if you know my mother she was like, "nah, you're too old for that!" Needless to say, I never got a canopy bed, but, I guess life went on and I was never really phased because the first time I thought back to it was the other night.
So there I am tucking myself into bed. Now when I say tucking myself in, I mean TUCK! I tuck my mosquito net so maticulously around and under my mattress, making sure not to miss a spot. Seriously, who has time for malaria?! Not this chick! My mosquito net doesn't just protect me from mosquitos, but from everything else I don't want sleeping with me. Nope, I don't want to sleep with Charolette, her husband, or her children. Nor do I want to sleep with Stuart Little, the Lizard, or anything that resembles those things from Men in Black. So, I tuck. I even tuck when I get out of bed in the morning because I don't want any surprises when I get into bed at night. But at night when I tuck, it's one of the most relaxing things ever. I'm pretty sure tucking my mosquito net and washing my feet, after a long day of navigating dirt roads, measure up equally. My earplugs are the sprinkles on my ice cream. I don't want to hear what is on the roof or anything else. All tucked and plugged, LOL, I'm in my happy place. There's a serenity that comes with tucking my net. I can do some reading, I can paint my nails, I catch up with my loves in the United States. Nothing can get me, and I can only hear myself think, at last, the canopy bed I never had! Like the Seasoned Saints say, "He may not come when you want Him, but He's always on time... Until Next Time...Live in Love!

I'm literally moving up!
Today was site announcement day! I needed to do this post before I told Facebook or anyone else! Because, honestly, this is an exclusive space. LOL! So, as most of you know I'm currently in Rwamagana at the training site for Peace Corps Rwanda. However, in about 5-6 weeks I will be moving to my site, where I will live for the rest of my service. Sooooo, DRUMROLL PLEASE!! I will be moving to the Nyagatare district! Nyagatare is in the Eastern Province. My sector is Kiyombe, and I will be in the Cyondo village. Look below and you'll see that I'm like Northeastern, basically Uganda. But what does this all mean to you?! Gaaaaah I don't know! I barely know what it means to for me! My village is described as rural, I don't know how rural, just pray for me! I'm unsure of what my water, electricity, or phone service situation will be like. From my sources, I'm told that the weather is fair, and slightly cooler due to being in the north. I hear the culture is very mixed because it's so close to Uganda. Igikiga is a language from Uganda that is common to my area. One says the scenery is "Lion King" gorgeous! But all of this is he-say-she-say! I won't know until I get there! Luckily, I'm going to visit for five days, on Sunday! I will be working at a health center that services about 15,000 people. As you're aware, I will be working as a maternal and child health volunteer. The health project focuses on the First 1000 Days. This project zeros in on the health of children from conception to about 2 years of age. I will work with pregnant women, children, and families as a whole. My tasks within the project will range from overall health, to nutrition, family planning, and disease prevention. I will be the first volunteer my site has had. Being the first means they asked for assistance. Which may be challenging, but definitely has more pros than cons, I my opinion. I will have the opportunity to set the pace. No shoes to fill, but my own... Well, I have a language midterm tomorrow! More about my site and journey coming soon...Until then, live in love! Listen, my heels look like I walked with Jesus, himself!! Somebody send me some Aloe Vesta!
